Primula akaulis - spring primrose and rules of care
Primrose is successfully grown both as a houseplant and as a garden perennial. Even a beginner grower will cope with the cultivation of primrose, if he follows the basic rules of care.
In the world (different sources, different numbers) there are more than 500 varieties of a flower, but the primrose akaulis, a primrose plant, won special love.
Primrose is especially popular in Asian countries, where it is grown in the garden and in the house, believing that it brings prosperity.
In Russia grow many varietal and hybrid plant species, but the greatest success is the stemless (named for its short, less than 20 cm stalk) species of acaulis.
In the basal part, the flower forms a dense rosette with elongated hairy leaves of a beautiful dense green color. The flowering period occurs in the spring months and usually ends by the end of July.
Inflorescences of the correct form, very small, the diameter of the sepals does not exceed 4 cm. The color of the flowers is diverse. In place of the corollas after flowering, a box with seeds is formed.
Primula akaulis mix: cultivation and care
The bushes will produce buds of different colors - this is what the prefix “mix” means, care at home for the flower will not burden the owner. Primrose feels well and in the open groundbut today's story is for indoor growers.
The flower is photophilous, but does not tolerate contact with direct sunlight: they cause burns on delicate foliage. Op put the pot with primrose at a certain distance from the southern drank and place it on a window facing east or west.
Primrose does not tolerate heat. The best temperature, especially during the flowering period, is up to +15 ° С. Therefore, flower pots are best taken to the balcony or to the garden.
The flower is very demanding on watering. Primrose loves moist air and moist soil, but does not tolerate stagnation of moisture in the pot - the roots are very quickly affected by rot, and the flower dies.
Important! When planting a primrose, select the pot correctly so that excess moisture is removed from the container. The plant feels best of all in wide, not too deep ceramic pots with a good layer of drainage at the bottom.
In summer, water the plant often, as the top layer of the earth dries in a pot. In winter, the volume of moisture is reduced - it is enough to water 1 time in 7–9 days.
It is better to defend water for irrigation. It should not be cold, but the primrose does not favor too warm water. Room temperature will be just right.
You need to spray primrose oftenbut do not wipe the sheet plates. Mechanical exposure will damage the villi on the leaves and the flower will begin to wither.
It is very important for the proper development of the plant to choose the appropriate substrate. The soil should be nutritious, loose, well let air through to the roots.
You can buy ready-made soil in a garden or flower shop. To mix the substrate yourself, you will need:
- turf land.
You need to mix in a ratio of 3: 2: 1: 4, the substrate is thoroughly mixed.
Important! Remove all foreign elements from the mixture so that the roots of the primrose do not interfere.
Primrose is very demanding on fertilizers. For a while, the bush spends a lot of energy and nutrients, so fertilizers are applied in dissolved form when watering.
Once a week necessarily add potassium phosphorus complexes, once every two weeks - nitrogen. Separately, you will have to buy complexes with iron, boron, manganese and zinc. They can be made according to the instructions indicated on the pack.
Attention! In winter, feeding is not done.
Transplantation and reproduction
All manipulations on transplantation and reproduction are allowed only after flowering.Young plants are transplanted once a year.
Adult bushes do not need such a frequent renewal of the soil, they are moved as needed every 2-4 years, when the pot becomes small. The new flowerpot should be 2-3 cm larger than the root system.
- 6-8 days before the relocation, primrose is stopped watering.
- After removing the bush from the old pot, the roots are carefully inspected, all areas with signs of mechanical or bacterial damage are removed with a sharp sterile knife. Place slices sprinkled with crushed charcoal.
- The primrose is placed in a new pot, carefully spreading the roots, the free space is covered with earth.
- Watered with water at room temperature.
Primrose is propagated. vegetative way and seeds. Germination of seeds - a complex and requiring patience; usually seeds are sown in late autumn.
Attention! Germination of seed material is low, often you have to sow the seeds additionally.
The container is well moistened and covered with a film to create a greenhouse effect. They put in a warm, but not more than +18 ° С place with good lighting. Under favorable conditions, in 2–2.5 weeks the first shoots will appear.
The simplest method of vegetative propagation is considered method of dividing the root during transplantation. New seedlings are processed in places of cuts with powdered coal and transplanted into separate pots.
The second most popular way is rooting cuttings with a kidney. A leaf with a kidney is separated from the parent plant with a sharp sterile blade, the cut site is treated with stimulants and deepened into the nutrient substrate by 1–1.5 cm.
You can cover the seedling with a film in order to improve the root formation process, in this case, you need to arrange a short-term ventilation for the seedling daily.
Primrose diseases and pests
The most common diseases (root decay or drying out) of primrose are caused by violations in the technology of plant care.
When following the recommendations, the flower should not hurt. But parasitic insects often attack the primrose and can cause the death of the bush.
The most ardent pests:
- spider mite;
- scale shield;
If pests are found, the plant is treated with insecticides and the topsoil is removed. Alas, you have to cut the affected leaves and inflorescences.
A very beautiful delicate plant, primrose will decorate any room. It cheers up, and a variety of colors during flowering can give a festive mood.
